“Tilt was a boutique specializing in those odd asymmetrical Belgian designers. I´d gone there once and tried on an enormous, cripplingly expensive, lopsided coat made of gray carpet underlay. The sleeves had been attached with giant staples. I´d stared at myself in the mirror, desperately trying to love the coat, but I´d looked like an extra from a medieval drama which featured lots of stumpy-looking peasants who had walked long distances on bad roads.”
